Gaza — At least 18 Palestinians have died from starvation in Gaza over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of starvation-related deaths in the besieged enclave to 86 since March 2025.
According to a report by Gaza’s health authorities, as cited by Xinhua on Sunday (July 20), the vast majority of those who have perished are children—76 of the 86 fatalities.
Officials described the unfolding hunger crisis as a “silent massacre.” The situation has become increasingly dire, with health authorities warning that around 17,000 children in Gaza are currently suffering from severe malnutrition.
In response, Gaza’s health authorities are urgently calling for the reopening of border crossings to allow the entry of desperately needed food and medical supplies.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) issued a stark statement on social media, accusing Israeli authorities of deliberately starving civilians in Gaza—”including one million children.”
UNRWA reiterated its call for an immediate end to Israel’s blockade on Gaza.
On the same day, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa described the situation in Gaza as “unimaginable and senseless.” He called for an end to the bloodshed, urgent reconstruction of the devastated region, and the integration of Gaza and its institutions into a unified national framework—paving the way toward the realization of a viable Palestinian state.
Since Israel resumed its large-scale offensive on Gaza on March 18, 2025, at least 8,066 Palestinians have been killed and another 28,939 injured.
According to Gaza-based health officials, the total death toll since the conflict escalated in October 2023 now stands at 58,895, with more than 140,980 people wounded.
