A warm, friendly atmosphere prevailed when Indonesian Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian received a friendly visit from Wali Nanggroe Aceh, His Excellency Teungku Malik Mahmud Al Haythar, at the Minister of Home Affairs’ Official Residence in Jakarta, on Saturday afternoon, July 12, 2025. The meeting, which took place in a relaxed atmosphere over lunch, discussed several important issues related to accelerating development and improving the welfare of the Acehnese people.
On this occasion, the Minister of Home Affairs welcomed the Wali Nanggroe and their entourage. He expressed his appreciation for the initiative, which also provided a forum for discussion between the two parties.
Several strategic issues discussed included strengthening the Wali Nanggroe institution, including its structure, planning, budgeting, and performance evaluation. Furthermore, they discussed optimizing regional potential to increase Regional Original Income (ROI) at both the provincial and district/city levels in Aceh.
“Efforts to improve this can be made by creating a climate that facilitates investment and expanding access to global markets. Transparent and accountable regional financial governance at every level of government in Aceh Province was also discussed,” said the Minister of Home Affairs.
Furthermore, the Minister of Home Affairs affirmed his full support for efforts to strengthen the Wali Nanggroe institution. He also suggested that the Wali Nanggroe, along with the Governor of Aceh, hold a direct audience with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to discuss the Aceh Special Autonomy Fund more comprehensively.
“The Special Autonomy Fund allocation model implemented in Papua, which utilizes a block grant scheme and earmarks for certain purposes, could be an alternative model to be implemented in Aceh,” explained the Minister of Home Affairs.
On that occasion, the Minister of Home Affairs was accompanied by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Tomsi Tohir; the Inspector General of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Sang Made Mahendra Jaya; the Director General of Regional Administration Development, Safrizal ZA; the Head of the Ministry of Home Affairs Information Center, Benni Irwan; and other relevant officials.
Meanwhile, the group accompanying the Wali Nanggroe Aceh His Excellency Teungku Malik Mahmud Al Haythar included members of the Majelis Tuha Peut Wali Nanggroe and Professor of UIN Ar-Raniry Syahrizal Abbas, Special Staff of the Wali Nanggroe for Diplomacy and Foreign Cooperation Affairs Mohammad Raviq, Head of the Secretariat of the Wali Nanggroe Institution Abdullah Hasbullah, and Head of the Program and Planning Sub-Division of the Secretariat of the Wali Nanggroe Institution T Ambral Ponda.
